PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT
At the foundation of any well-conceived grant application is a good idea that is both worth pursuing and well-aligned with the potential sponsor’s funding agenda. Development of this idea can take time as the principal investigator (PI) needs to be knowledgeable about the historical and current context in which the idea fits (i.e., the state of knowledge) as well as be qualified to pursue strategies that facilitate the goals and work of the project. Fundable ideas are as diverse and numerous as the potential sponsors available, ranging from a problem to be solved, a hypothesis to be tested, a societal need to be met, to an artistic endeavor to be pursued.
