SPONSORED PROGRAMS

Sponsored programs are research, instruction or other scholarly, creative or service activities financed in whole or in part by external entities.

Syracuse University's sponsors include federal, state or local governments, corporations and foundations, and other non-profit organizations including academic institutions that 'flow down" funding.

Support for sponsored programs is provided through an agreement between the sponsor and Syracuse University.  Distinguishing characteristics of a sponsored agreement, which may be a grant, cooperative agreement or contract, include:

  • A specific period of performance

  • A work plan or narrative that describes the project's goals, and objectives or specific aims to be achieved with sponsored funds

  • A budget presenting how funds would be used to conduct the work plan

  • Project and/or financial reporting requirements to demonstrate that objectives are being achieved and funds properly used

Sponsored programs are managed by the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) with the support of the Office of Sponsored Accounting.

Requests for support from external entities should be reviewed and authorized by OSP prior to submission to the sponsor.
